16 Jul 2013 Residents are warned about a mentally deranged helper:Dear Residents, In April 2012, my husband and I hired a helper called Asanda Mpompo (25 years old from kwa-Gotyana in the Eastern Cape) who was referred to us by another one who worked for our family friends for years. She worked for us until end of February this year when she became very ill, we had taken her to doctors and run several tests when we found that she was HIV positive. We were willing to get her treatment so she would get better while she was with us but because we have very small kids we arranged that she got a transfer to her home hospital to get better there. While she was at her home healing we were in contact with her and even supported her financially. She would call frequently wanting to come back, so when the one we had hired after her left us after 3 months (March-May 2013) we did not hesitate but to call her back. She acted all excited and praising the Lord about that and started working for us from the 2nd week of June (last month). All was well and we even sent her for a medical check up to ensure that she was fit to work again.
On Thursday this past week while I was at work I received 2 concerning smses from her one saying, I quote: “Sisi please come home quickly as something is wrong”. So I called her several times in order to find out the details of the matter but the phone would ring and quickly disconnect. Shortly a second sms was sent by her and it said, I quote: “Sisi please yiza Belema utye” (Meaning my daughter ate something). The smses she sent were incomplete and my phone calls were unanswered by her so as a mother I panicked assuming that my daughter might have eaten poison and is probably dying! I drove straight home, breaking all road rules, having panic attacks on the way because of what I had been led to believe.
I got home at around 13h15 only to find my two children (4 years old and 18 months old) deserted behind the bars of my door, locked up and were left alone for hours. According to the 4 year old and the status in which I found them and the house, the crazy woman had left them shortly after I’d gone to work, around 8 am that morning. The young one had diarrhoea running down her legs, God knows what they tried to feed themselves, their eyes both red from crying, their voices gone from screaming for hours, they were hungry, dirty, confused and severely traumatised. I did not carry keys to work as it was the norm because I had a full time helper, so the children were locked up and I could not open for them immediately, I sent the older one to look in the house but there were no keys, I searched around the yard, only to find the keys thrown carelessly somewhere close to the gate where anyone could have found them and did what they liked to my kids and household. It took me at least 30 minutes before I could find the keys and open the door to save the children. My daughter nappy area is still very burnt from the experience of the day. This is any mother’s worse nightmare, one that would haunt me for years to come and I do not wish it on my worst enemy.
I therefore plead that we all stand together as a community against all crimes committed to children by intervening wherever we can to stop a possible crime to an innocent child. In the note that this unstable woman left in my house she said that she got another job in ext 7 at Cosmo City. I therefore would like to warn all the residents that the woman is unstable, dangerous and a threat to any household and family. I have lodged a police case against her with the Honeydew police station, therefore she is wanted highly by the police.
